In the episode, Lars Barriga -- the show's resident high-school slacker and Steven's BFF -- decides to bring an ube cake to a potluck.

Ube is Tagalog for purple yam, and it's used to make various pastries in the Philippines -- including chiffons, puddings and swiss rolls. It's also what gives the purple Raindrop Cake its colour.
The reference has excited many, with some welcoming the Filipino reference as a sign of diversity; many voice actors in Steven Universeare of Filipino descent, including Deedee Magno Hall (who voices Pearl), Shelby Rabara (who voices Peridot) and Jennifer Paz (who voices Lapis Lazuli):
