【eroticism our wounds】
As more and eroticism our woundsmore damning allegations come out against Harvey Weinstein, actress Kate Winslet shared her thoughts on the Hollywood producer, explaining why she purposefully decided not to thank him in her 2009 Oscars acceptance speech.
On Saturday Winslet told The Los Angeles Timesthat despite being pressured to thank Weinstein — who dozens of women alleged sexually harassed and assaulted them — she "deliberately" left the producer's name out of her speech because of his "rude" behavior.

"If people aren’t well-behaved, why would I thank him?"
"I remember being told. 'Make sure you thank Harvey if you win.'" she told The Los Angeles Times, but Winslet refused. "I remember turning around and saying, 'No I won’t. No I won’t.' And it was nothing to do with not being grateful. If people aren’t well-behaved, why would I thank him?"
Instead Winslet reportedly thanked 19 other people by name and various others more generally, not once mentioning Weinstein. "That was deliberate. That was absolutely deliberate," the actress explained.
After the New York Times and The New Yorkerpublished troubling reports of women accusing Weinstein of sexually harassing and assaulting them Winslet released a powerful statement to Variety condemning his behavior.
Part of Winslet's statement reads as follows:
"The way Harvey Weinstein has treated these vulnerable, talented young women is NOT the way women should ever EVER deem to be acceptable or commonplace in ANY workplace ...
His behavior is without question disgraceful and appalling and very, very wrong. I had hoped that these kind of stories were just made up rumors, maybe we have all been naïve. And it makes me so angry. There must be 'no tolerance' of this degrading, vile treatment of women in ANY workplace anywhere in the world."
Winslet went on to describe her professional relationship with Weinstein to The Los Angeles Times, explaining that over the years he never let her forget his role in her career.
"For my whole career, Harvey Weinstein, whenever I’ve bumped into him, he’d grab my arm and say, ‘Don’t forget who gave you your first movie.’ Like I owe him everything. Then later, with The Reader, same thing, 'I’m gonna get you that Oscar nomination, I’m gonna get you a win, I’m gonna win for you.'"
"But that’s how he operated," Winslet said. "He was bullying and nasty. Going on a business level, he was always very, very hard to deal with — he was rude. He used to call my female agent a [vulgar name for a woman] every time he spoke to her on the telephone."
The 42-year-old actress said she hopes that Weinstein is punished for his actions and that her comments and the accounts of other women who have come forward will inspired others to do the same.
"The fact that I’m never going to have to deal with Harvey Weinstein again as long as I live is one of the best things that’s ever happened and I'm sure the feeling is universal," Winslet said.
