Just fifteen minutes later, the Twitter account of the United States' Commander in Chief, @realDonaldTrump, lost at least 100,000 followers.

Original image has been replaced. Credit: Mashable And the fall will likely get steeper. When Twitter announced its intention to remove inactive accounts, it said that it would take place over "the next few days." So it seems like this isn't happening all at once, and the losses may keep coming.
Twitter is removing inactive accounts in order to "build trust" as part of its push towards "conversational health." That means that it flags any account that has been inactive, or has had suspicious changes in activity. It then contacted those accounts, and if they did not confirm their activity status, they were swept up in The Purge.
A healthier Twitter? We're all for that. Embarrassing follower losses? Yep, that too. Wonder if Trump is as opposed to fake followers as he is to "fake news."
UPDATE 7/12/2018 5 p.m. ET:
President Trump has lost 300,000 followers. At around 3:45 p.m., he had lost 400,000 (down to 53 million). But shortly after, his follower count rebounded to 53.1 million.
