【Yoo Jung】
It was only a matter of time before someone did the math and Yoo Jungrealized IRL Rocket Leaguecould be a super cool thing.
Psyonix, the esports darling's developer, has partnered with Zag Toys to create a line of toys modeled after the rides in the "car soccer" video game. You can expect 12 cars in the initial line of "Original Minis," including Octane, Dominus, Masamune, Hotshot, Grog, X-Devil, Merc and Backfire.
SEE ALSO: Inside the White House's first-ever competitive gaming eventThe toy cars are all "pull-back racers," meaning you drag them back a few inches, then release and watch them dart forward. Each one will be packed inside a plastic replica of Rocket League's ball.
See them in action here:
The Rocket Leaguetoys are immediately reminiscent of Micro Machines, a popular brand of pint-sized cars and trucks that first surfaced in the mid-'80s. For a period of time, they were even more popular than Hot Wheels and Matchbox, the standard-bearers for toy cars.
Much like Micro Machines, it appears that Zag's Rocket Leaguetoys eschew the die-cast metal bodies that characterize Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars in favor of cheaper plastic.
Expect the first line of Rocket LeagueOriginal Minis to arrive sometime in the spring of 2017.
