Fast-forward to August 2017, and Cameron suddenly pops up at one of the poshest music festivals in the UK, the Wilderness in Oxfordshire, along with his wife Samantha.
And he didn't go unnoticed.
After photobombing a Labour activists' selfie, the former Conservative MP was depicted with a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other as he hugs a fancy-dress-clad fan of opposition leader and Cameron's arch-enemy, Jeremy Corbyn of Labour:
