Jeurys Familia, eroticism vs pornography an All-Star pitcher for the New York Mets, was arrested for domestic violence only weeks after he publicly campaigned against domestic abuse.

According to a complaint filed by authorities in a New Jersey municipal court on Monday, Familia caused a "bodily injury to another." The victim — whose name was redacted — had a scratch on his or her chest and a bruise on his or her right cheek, officials observed. The responding law enforcement officer had probable cause to label it a domestic violence incident.

What's particularly curious about the situation, though, is that Familia recently appeared in an anti-domestic violence ad campaign.

Last month, the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) teamed up with New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito to launch the #NotAFan campaign, which features athletes advocating against domestic abuse.

Though Major League Baseball doesn't see as many domestic violence cases as the NFL, Familia isn't the first baseball player to deal with domestic abuse issues. The league introduced a new domestic violence policy in 2015, and have used it a handful of times already.

Mets infielder Jose Reyes received a 51-game suspension after he assaulted his wife last year. He was arrested on Oct. 31, 2015, exactly a year before Familia's arrest.

Chicago Cubs closer Aroldis Chapman, a key player in the 2016 World Series, allegedly choked his girlfriend and fired shots from a handgun last October. MLB suspended Chapman for 30 games at the beginning of the 2016 season.

Police never charged Chapman, which means Familia will likely receive a similar suspension from MLB, regardless of the legal ramifications.

In his first full season as the Mets closer, Familia led the National League with 51 saves. MLB indefinitely banned the Mets previous closer, Jenrry Mejía, after he failed three tests for performance-enhancing drugs.
